A lot of vintage hairstyles have bangs, but making a commitment to them may not be that easy for you. So enter "clip on bangs". Yes, bangs you can actually clip into your hair and still have that vintage glam look you are going for.

Day of Coordination

I was delighted when I found out that I had been featured in a wedding planning article for The Wheel, a military newspaper serving Fort Eustis and Fort Story, Virginia. Turns out the future mother-in-law for one of my fall brides is the assistant editor for the paper. I met her during the initial consultation. Goes to show that you never know who you are working with and how important it is to make a good first impression.

Table Names

If you're going to be using escort cards then you will be needing table numbers. Instead of using the usual numbers to distinguish your tables, consider naming them. If you're a couple who likes to travel, you can use the names of places you've visited together; like your first vacation or the place he proposed. For a military wedding, try names like "Battle Hymn Of The Republic" or movie titles like "Platoon" or "Saving Private Ryan". If you're a wine enthusiast use names like Merlot and Cabernet. If your theme is eco-chic, your table names can be different types of trees, flowers or insects. We used song titles for a wedding we did in the fall. The meal was served buffet style, so to avoid long lines we told the guests to listen out for the song their table was named after. What ever you name your tables make it fun and tie it into your decor.

Welcome Baskets

Treat your out of town guests with some pre-wedding goodies. It offers a warm welcome and makes them feel right at home. Have one welcome basket per room - not per guest. However, if you know a few of your friends will be sharing one hotel room, pack a few extras in each basket. Depending on your hotel's policy - the hotel may deliver the baskets to each room or leave them at the front desk for each guest to pick up upon check-in.
Some things you may want to include are a map of the local area, some restaurant and shopping suggestions, local attractions and an itinerary of pre-wedding and wedding day activities. Your local Convention and Visitors Bureau may be able to provide you with maps and other local freebies. You may include a list of other family and friends staying at the same hotel and their room numbers.

Here comes the fun part. Choose a container. You can use a basket, gift bag or a gable box in your wedding colors or theme. Nashville Wraps and Creative Bag are great sources. Add some pre-packaged snacks, bottled water or your guest's favorite beverages and a disposable camera. You can even slip in a gift card to Starbucks for your guest's coffee fix. Top off with a handwritten note of thanks and you'll have a much appreciated treat.

Escort cards are typically situated on a table near the entrance to your reception room. Remember an escort card lists what table your guest will be seated at. A place card is placed at the table showing your guest where they are seated. Since your escort card table will probably be the first thing your guests see upon entering your reception, it is a place where you can make a dramatic statement, emphasize your theme or add a little of the "wow" factor. Castle McCulloch

An engineer by the name of Charles McCulloch came to the gold fields of Jamestown, North Carolina after the discovery of gold, to build a gold refinery. McCulloch built a gold mill in 1832 and operated for many years. The mill also served as a makeshift hospital during the Civil War. Today Castle McCulloch is a premier wedding and reception site. It also hosts bridal shows through out the year, as well as parties and retreats.

North Carolina Castles

As children we all listened as our once upon a time stories ended with a princess being whisked away by her prince charming to a beautiful castle. A castle venue completes the wedding fairy tale and now you can have your own fairy tale ending. This week we'd like to feature some of North Carolina's beautiful castles.

Barclay Villa

In the early 1800’s, Mr. and Mrs. John Barclay came to Angier, North Carolina from Pennsylvania. They purchased a 510 acre tract of land and built an Inn called Barclay’s Inn. This inn provided a welcomed stop for many travelers making a trip via stage coach, horse or foot.

Barclay's Inn was famous from Boston to New Orleans for its fine food and hospitality. The well known inn also housed famous visitors as well as many others. Legend has it that Marquis de Lafayette stayed at Barclay's Inn during his visit to the United Sates in 1824 or 1825.

Today it is a lovely chateau style home with English gardens, water fountains and beautiful flowers. Imagine your wedding in the grand ballroom or your vows under the castle style gazebo. The Barclay Villa has packages for different budgets.
